As per the latest PHO restrictions (https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/covid-19/info/restrictions) Raincity will re-introduce it's programs in a phased capacity approach while following all other mandated restrictions.
As requested by the PHO we have returned to a printed and updated Procedures & Operations manual, the latest version can be found HERE.

Updated Sections for Phase 8C
2. Covid-19 Information
- Symptoms include:
- Key symptoms: Fever or chills, cough, loss of sense of smell or taste, difficulty breathing.
- Other symptoms: Sore throat, loss of appetite, extreme fatigue or tiredness, headache, body aches, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea.
- Urgent care required if: hard to breathe, chest pain, can’t drink anything, feel very sick, feel confused.
- Since carriers of any variant of COVID-19 have the potential to show no signs or symptoms, our approach will be to assume that any and all workers & clients may be potential carriers
- Omicron is currently (2022 01) the most commonly detected variant in B.C.
- Omicron is primarily spread through aerosol transmission, i.e. it is an airborne virus.
- Omicron has been found to spread more easily between people than previous COVID-19 variants
- People can spread Omicron to others even if they have been vaccinated, especially when they are symptomatic.
- Omicron appears to cause less serious outcomes than other COVID-19 variants among people who have received at least 2 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
- Current vaccines provide good protection against severe illness and hospitalizations for Delta and Omicron
- A third vaccine dose may help provide more protection from Omicron
- Breakthrough infections can occur in people who are fully vaccinated
- People who have had COVID-19 can get sick again from new variants.
Getting vaccinated is important even if you have already had COVID-19.
3. Risk Assessment
The highest risk situations in our operations are:
- Prolonged duration close contact; client to client, or client to coach including any forms of direct physical contact
- Workouts that have potential for heavy breathing, sweating, and releasing of additional airborne particles while exercising
- this risk can be exacerbated by poor or improper ventilation
- Multiple clients breathing heavily at the same time in a shared space increases the chance of inhalation of potentially contaminated airborne particles
- this risk can be exacerbated by group classes where multiple clients are completing the same exercises at the same time
- Shared equipment and common touch surfaces
- this risk can be mitigated by up to 90-99.9% with proper cleaning and hand washing / disinfecting
- Socializing or culminating in close quarters before and after classes or sessions
6. Elimination: Capacity and Utilization Limits
-
- Social distancing measures will be adhered to based on WCB COVID-19 Safety Plan requirements as well as the latest PHO order on events and gatherings:
- Occupancy limits will be posted throughout the facility based on floor space requiring 7 square meters (or 75sqf) of unencumbered space per person
- Occupancy limits will be posted & represented by X markings on the floor to help members maintain appropriate distancing
- There will be a maximum of 25 people per space for group exercise or fitness
- We will continue to offer online or at home options for clients and staff
- This may include; online classes, online private training, individualized at home programming, etc.
- Staff will be encouraged to work from home and/or provide online services whenever possible/appropriate
- All staff working from home will perform regular check-ins
- Entry to the facility will be permitted by appointment only, no drop-ins.
- Clients deemed higher risk for COVID-19 complications will be consulted prior to entering the facility and may be provided additional times of lower capacity in order to ensure their safety while accessing the facility
- This will allow our facility to continue to provide services to higher risk clients without increasing the potential for burdening our healthcare system
- Social distancing measures will be adhered to based on WCB COVID-19 Safety Plan requirements as well as the latest PHO order on events and gatherings:
7. Elimination: Ventilation & Minimizing Shared Airborne Particles
In order to minimize risks associated with inhalation of contaminated airborne particles (section 3.3) the following measures will be implemented:
- Air quality will be tracked and monitored via NDIR CO2 analyzer
- If a CO2 level of above 700ppm is exceeded then staff will immediately ventilate the facility by opening doors as needed
- Doors will remain open at least 20cm while athletes are actively utilizing the facility
- Athletes will be encouraged to wear masks at all times, including when exercising, though this will not be required
- Athletes will avoid ‘facing’ other athletes when completing anything that causes an increased respiration rate
8. Elimination: Reducing Group Congregation
In order to minimize risk associated with cohorts of patrons spending prolonged periods of time sharing space, the following measures will be implemented:
- Athletes will not be permitted entry to the facility until their designated class or session start time
- They will be given 5 minutes transition time to drop off their belongings and begin their warmup (if they have not already done so outside / in advance)
- Athletes will be encouraged to begin their warmups outside / on their own prior to entering the facility
- A space will be made available just inside the entry door for initial drop-off of bags / clothes prior to entering the facility for their class
- Athletes will be asked to come ‘ready to go’ to avoid congregations at change rooms and maximize efficiency while inside the facility
- Class and scheduled sessions will end with a 5 minute transmission period for clients to exit before the next group is permitted entry
